HBO makes great television. We all know that. Every year the cable channel produces series and mini-series that go on to win Emmys and create intense conversations about the latest episodes. And right now, the network is hard at work producing what’s sure to be a massive television event, “Boardwalk Empire”. Read more

About that HBO Greenlight…

Filed under: Top Stories — Boardwalk Empire @ 1:03 pm

The First of September was another big day for everyone involved with Boardwalk Empire — the book and now, officially, the HBO series.

There’s at least one note of interest I can add to the reporting that appeared in Variety, The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Times, and elsewhere:

September 1 was not only the day HBO ordered 11 episodes on top of the Scorsese-helmed pilot, but also the date on which Plexus Publishing, Inc. published the general trade edition of the book by Nelson Johnson.

I’d say that’s pretty neat timing; after all, it’s not like any of us at Plexus had any way of knowing when HBO’s green light might come when we set the pub date (more than eight months ago, at which point we didn’t even know for certain that Marty would direct the pilot). Serendipity — you gotta love it!

So, as of this week the book is on store shelves (please support your local independent bookstore) and available online from a multitude of dealers. If you haven’t read the true story inspiring the HBO series yet, what are you waiting for?

Another inside tidbit here: next week our fabulous publicist, Smith Publicity, rolls out our campaign to spread the word about the new edition. We’re a small publisher — wish us luck!

Have a great Labor Day weekend, and please drive safe.

PS: If you happen to be in a store that isn’t stocking the book, feel free to suggest they check with the good people at Independent Publishers Group (IPG) who are handling distribution to the trade.
