Have arrived in L.A. relatively unscathed, and settling in nicely. The Beverly Hilton, the host hotel for this season’s fall preview critics tour, is really quite lovely; as I’m sure you know, having DVR’d the event for me, this is where they hold the Golden Globes every year. [the Star.com]
HBO has released a fourth trailer for the Terence Winter and Martin Scorsese created Prohibition-era gangster television series Boardwalk Empire titled “Countdown to Prohibition”. The new trailer focuses on Steve Buscemi, who plays the undisputed ruler of Atlantic City and town Treasurer, Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, who is described as “a political fixer and backroom dealer who is equal parts politician and gangster and equally comfortable in either role.” Watch the trailer after the jump, and see why this is quickly becoming my most anticipated television series of the near future. For its new gangster series “Boardwalk Empire,” HBO built a $5 million, 300-foot-long boardwalk on the Brooklyn waterfront to recreate Atlantic City circa 1920. The set required 150 tons of steel and includes historical elements like the Baby Incubator, an actual nursery where tourists could gawk at tiny, premature infants. [WSJ]
As the cable giant gets ready to broadcast its series Boardwalk Empire, the epic saga of Atlantic City politicians, vice, and dames, the real-life Atlantic City – as if on cue – had one of its regularly occurring convulsions Wednesday when Gov. Christie delivered a jolt to the sagging resort. [the Philadelphia Inquirer]
In my travels around the internet, I’ve heard a number of people ruefully murmur that HBO’s heavy-hitters in the dramatic series arena, namely Big Love and True Blood, have jumped the shark. Hopefully, their new series, Boardwalk Empire, which will premiere Sunday, September 19th, will revive things over there. [Mamapop]
HBO Announces 'Boardwalk Empire' Will Premiere Sept. 19.
HBO followed its big sweep of Emmy nominations Thursday with some news Friday about its next major project expected to be a big awards contender. The network announced that “Boardwalk Empire,” a period drama set in tumultuous, Prohibition-era Atlantic City, N.J., will premiere Sept. 19. That means the series will be launching just as the broadcast networks are premiering all their new fall shows — a sign HBO must feel particularly confident in its prospects. [LA Times]
It’s official: I want to spend a night on the Boardwalk Empire set and be tucked into bed by Martin Scorsese telling me stories about “gangster toddlers.” If the last trailer for the upcoming HBO drama exec produced by director Martin Scorsese and Sopranos scribe Terence Winter didn’t sell you on the show, the “Invitation to the set” embedded below will.
