Boardwalk Empire is an upcoming American television series from premium cable network HBO, set in Atlantic City, New Jersey during the Prohibition era. Starring Steve Buscemi, the show is adapted from Nelson Johnson’s book, Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times, and Corruption of Atlantic City by Emmy award-winning screenwriter and producer Terence Winter of The Sopranos.

I had a “where’s Waldo” moment today, reading the NY Times business section–while looking at an article about Barnes & Noble. Looks at this picture — see anything very familiar? This one is in Arlington, VA.

Can you spot it?

On the beach in southern New Jersey sits Atlantic City, a spectacular resort known as “The World’s Playground,” a place where rules don’t apply. Massive hotels line its famous Boardwalk, along with nightclubs, amusement piers and entertainment to rival Broadway. For a few dollars, a working man can get away and live like a king-legally or illegally.

Boardwalk Empire is one of my most anticipated new TV series, and it’s coming to HBO. The show was created by Terence Winter and Martin Scorsese and it explores Atlantic City in the roaring ’20s during the prohibition. It will detail the life and exploits of Nucky Thompson who is based on the real life person Enoch “Nucky” Johnson, the “boss” of the Republican political machine that controlled Atlantic City from 1911 to 1941. The amazing cast includes Steve Buscemi, Gretchen Mol, Michael Shannon, Michael Pitt, Michael K. Williams and Dabney Coleman.
