James Poteat wanted to make a name for himself in the hip-hop world, so he latched onto one of the hottest shows of the fall TV season, HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire.”

Poteat, of Egg Harbor Township, made a music video and recorded a song titled “Boardwalk Empire” for a compilation CD. Poteat and his co-star in the music video, fellow rapper Roger “Kodak” Prescott, of Galloway Township, filmed part of the video in September at the site of an 800-square-foot “Boardwalk Empire” marquee in the lobby at Caesars Atlantic City.

Poteat, whose rap name is Selfmade, posted the music video on YouTube. It has been viewed more than 1,000 times.
