A Brooklyn-based digital effects studio is using its movie magic to turn Greenpoint into Atlantic City of the Roaring Twenties for director Martin Scorsese’s latest project, “Boardwalk Empire.”
The upcoming HBO pilot stars Brooklyn’s Steve Buscemi as a businessman-turned-bootlegger who takes control of the city’s political machine.
The Greenpoint set re-created storefronts, boardwalks and cars, but Brooklyn’s Brainstorm Digital will add skylines, billboards, piers and beaches.
Brainstorm, film pros who have worked on “Synecdoche, New York” and “Mission to Mars,” said TV can be just as demanding as film.
“It’s our most complex job to date,” said Glenn Allen, visual effects producer and co-founder of Brainstorm, located in DUMBO. “Everything is HD now, so we have to treat it like a feature film.”
